Gaming Table 4: Building the TableTop

I again went in that Brico Store I mentioned before to buy another 210 x 150 x 0,8 cm plywood sheet, divided in 3 pieces of 70 x 150 cm. 
I took 5 fir beams (20mm x 20mm x 2000mm) to make the end tabletop supports, and another 2 beams (20mm x 50mm x 1500mm) to strengthen the middle board.  The plywood cost me around 59€, while the fir was around 16€.

Sono andato in un Brico per comperare un foglio di compensato di 210 x 150 x 0,8 cm diviso in 3 pezzi da 70 x 150.
Mentre ero lì ho comperato anche 5 pezzi di abete (20mm x 20mm x 2000 mm) e 2 pezzi di abete (20mm x 50mm x 1500 mm) per il sostegno. Il compensato mi è costato circa 59 €, mentre per l'abete sono serviti circa 16 €.

Lay down the plywood, keeping the boards in the right order. This way the grain will make a nice, continuous pattern on all the tabletop.

Mettete giù le tavole facendo attenzione all'orientazione della grana, per ottenere un bel disegno a tavolo finito.

Turn the first piece upside down and mark where the wood will go using a pencil (do not use a pen).
Repeat the process on all the boards.
Finally cut the fir to size.

Ribaltate il primo pezzo e segnate con una matita dove vanno incollati i rinforzi.
Ripetete il processo su tutte e tre le tavole.
Infine tagliate a misura l'abete.

Use white glue (vinil-based) and attach all the beams to the tabletop. Use wood clamps and some smooth scrap wood to avoid leaving marks on the table surface.

Incollate i rinforzi con colla vinilica e metteteli in morsa, usando dei pezzetti di legno per evitare di lasciare segni sulla superficie.

When it's all done, flip all the pieces and smooth the edges with a small handplane or 250 grit sandpaper. Sand all the surface scratches too.

Quando avete terminato, raddrizzate le tavole e lisciate i bordi con carta vetrata grana 250 o con una piccola pialla. Lisciate anche i segni sulla superficie del tavolo.

Finally, apply your finish of choice. I used linseed oil, but I plan on adding beeswax later.

Infine applicate il protettivo che preferite. Io ho usato l'olio di lino, ma aggiungerò prossimamente uno strato di cera.
