Tutorial: Making Cheap Trees

Ecco un piccolo tutorial su come realizzo alcuni dei miei alberi.
Il metodo dà risultati discreti e abbastanza robusti, ma il vero vantaggio sta nel costo irrisorio delle componenti.

This is a small tutorial about  how I make my trees.
It's fast and trees are quite durable and decent-looking, but the true pro is the cheapness of materials.

Per prima cosa, procuratevi alcune potature di rosmarino. E' essenziale che siano secche, perchè questo ne aumenta molto la resistenza mecanica.

First of all, go and collect a bunch of rosemary branches. I's essential that they are dry, because this increase a lot their resistance.

Prendete una tronchese e tagliate le potature a misura. In alternativa potete usare una sega, ma non le forbici per potature perchè il rosmarino è molto duro se secco.

Take a nippers and cut the branches. You can also use a saw, remember that the rosemary is very hard to cut if completely dry. 

Una volta tagliate a misura le potature, incollatele a delle basi (io ho usato MDF e compensato, ma qualsiasi materiale rigido va bene).

Once you've cut the trunk of the tree, it's time to glue it to a solid base. I used MDF and plywood, but every resistant material will do.

Incollate se necessario qualche grosso sasso alla base per migliorare la stabilità, poi incolate dei licheni per simulare la chioma.

Glue to the base some stones if you feel it's necessary to improve the stability of the tree, than add some lichens to the branches to simulate the foliage.

Incollate alla base sabbia, flock o segatura colorata, poi aggiungete vegetazione e legnetti a piacimento. Il vostro albero è così terminato.

Flock the base and add little wood and lichens bits. Your tree is ready!

Impetus: 5 Gallic Cavalry

Finalmente sono riuscito a terminare le mie 5 unità di cavalleria celta per Impetus. Le miniature sono della Hat (Gallic command) e della Italeri (Gallic Cavalry).

Infinity Play: PanOceania vs Ariadna, First Game in a Shop

Come si può capire dal titolo, giovedì sera ho fatto la mia prima partita a Infinity con un avversario diverso dalla mia ragazza in un negozio di Bologna, la Games Academy. Ho giocato contro Mitzui, un ragazzo di Vignola, e devo dire che mi sono divertito molto nonostante sia stato sconfitto per ben due volte.
Penso farò altre partite, è una esperienza da riprovare (nonostante sia massacrante farsi 3 ore di macchina per giocare).

As you can guess from the title, Thursday night I got my first Infinity game with an opponent different from my girl. It was in a shop in Bologna, the Games Academy. I played against Mitzui, a guy of Vignola, and I must say I really enjoyed myself despite having been defeated twice in a row.
I think I'll get some more, it's surely an experience to try again (although a 3-hour drive to play a couple of games is a fun-killer).

Courthouse - Warehouse

Ecco la mia ultima costruzione: un edificio fantasy-medievale. Penso lo userò come deposito o come tribunale.
La struttura è semplice polistirene da 2 cm inciso e dipinto, poi lo ho ricoperto con comune stucco. I dettagli sono in gesso (blocchi Hirst Arts) e legno.

This is my last project: a fantasy-medieval building. I think I'll use it as a warehouse or as a curthouse.
The frame is simple polystyrene covered in putty. Details are plaster (Hirst Arts blocks) and wood.

Out in the Void: Starfield on the cheap

Eccomi finalmente di ritorno dal mio viaggio oltre i confini dell'universo (cioè a Bologna e Modena), con un carico di nuove miniature per Impetus e il portafoglio notevolmente alleggerito.
Essendomi presa la fregola di Full Thrust, un gioco eccellente di combattimenti spaziali della Ground Zero Games, volevo anche un tavolo da gioco degno di questo nome.
Inizialmente avevo pensato di comperare un panno di feltro nero, poi mi sono ricordato di avere in solaio un pezzo di compensato da 4mm delle dimensioni opportune. Sono quindi andato in cartoleria e ho comperato due cartoncini Bristol neri di 70cmx100cm, li ho incollati alle tavole (4 tavole da 70cmx50cm)e ho nastrato i bordi.
Aggiunti un po' di puntini di vari colori e un paio di nebulose con dei colori economici ed ecco - una tavola da gioco per poco meno di 2€!

I am finally back from my trip beyond the borders of the universe (that is, in Bologna and Modena), with a load of new miniatures for Impetus and my wallet noticeably lighter.
I'm getting a bit overentusiat about Full Thrust, an excellent game of space combat games by Ground Zero Games, so I wanted a gaming table worthy of it.
I thought about buying a piece of black felt, then I remembered I had a piece of plywood in the attic of the right dimensions. I went to the stationery store and I bought two black Bristol-type cardboard of 70cmx100cm , glued them to the boards (4 boards of 70cmx50cm) and taped the edges with black dutch tape.
Added a little dots of various colors and a couple of nebulae with economic colours and behold - a game table for less than 2 €!

Infinity: on the bench, off the bench!

Questa settimana ho fatto una partita a Infinity con Chiara. Il campo rappresentava un piccolo centro di ricerca in mezzo alla giungla. La partita l'ho vinta io grazie al Wulver, nonostante la perdita del mio tenente nel 2° turno.

Ho anche dipinto l'Aquila Guard che ho comperato a Dadi e Sudore, lo sniper russo di 1-48 Combat e ho quasi terminato il TankHunter e un orko skiavista modificato (un mutante).

I also painted the Aquila Guard I bought in Dices and Sweat, the Russian sniper of 1-48 Combat (bought at Play 2011) and I have almost finished the TankHunter and the Ork slaver (will be a mutant).

Ho anche terminato di dipingere e imbasettare alcune unità di galli per Impetus e ora ho sul tavolo da lavoro 6 - 7 unità di cavalleria gallica. Ma questo sarà un'altro post.

I also finished painting and basing some Gallic units for Impetus and now I've got 6 - 7 units of Gallic cavalry on the bench. But this will be another post.
