Gaming Table 2: Apron and Legs

Once I got the lumber, I put the basic frame together.

I started by joining the legs with the short apron pieces using white glue (vinilic glue) and 4 dowels.

If you're unfamiliar with woodworking, I suggest to pay a visit to woodgears, an excellent site to learn many interesting things that can be done with wood. It has loads of plans too.

Next, I drilled the legs and the long apron rails to match. I then proceded to fasten the apron rails to the legs using carriage bolts with hex nuts, washers and split-washers.

Una volta avuto il legname, ho montato il telaio.

Ho iniziato unendo le gambe con le tavole corte utilizzando 4 tasselli e incollando il tutto con colla vinilica.

Se non avete familiarità con la lavorazione del legno, vi suggerisco di fare una visita a woodgears, un ottimo sito per imparare le basi della costruzione di mobili robusti in legno (è in inglese).

Successivamente, ho forato le gambe e le tavole lunghe facendo sì che i fori combaciassero.

Ho poi proceduto fissando le tavole alle gambe utilizzando bulloni, dadi, rondelle e fermadadi.

The main structure.

 The head of the bolts. They have a square metal part under the heads.

Note: those are 10 mm thick, 12 cm long bolts, and they seem tiny compared to the frame.

 The short rail. Note that the wood has no holes in it: the dowels don't go all the way through the wood. (by the way, I used four 5 cm long, 8 mm thick beech dowels for each leg).
