Gaming Table 1: get the lumber

I bought the wood for the gaming table! Wohooo!!!

Near my home it's rather difficult to find good lumber retailers. The wood is usually very pricey (and often crooked) and the sellers rather rude.

Luckily I found a local bulk retailer that sells wood to carpenters and bricklayers, Incerti Legnami. They have mainly fir, and the lumber is rather rough. Fortunately, they have a lot of machines to cut, smooth and impregnate the wood, so I asked them to plane a couple of boards.

The service was truly outstanding, considered that I bought only 3 planks. Most bulk retailers would have dismissed my request as too small to be worth it, while they were very kind and tried to give me the cheapest option out of all the possible ones. They even let me choose personally the lumber, and that allowed me to get the most straight and good looking boards.

Vicino a casa mia è piuttosto difficile trovare buoni rivenditori di legname. Il materiale è di solito molto costoso (e spesso non diritto) ed i venditori poco disponibili.
Fortunatamente ho trovato una segheria locale che vende legno a falegnami e muratori, oltre che costruire capannoni e tettoie. La maggior parte del materiale di Incerti Legnami è troppo grezza da usare direttamente, ma hanno un sacco di macchine per tagliare, levigare e impregnare il legno, così ho chiesto loro di piallare e tagliare a misura un paio di tavole.
Il servizio è stato davvero eccellente, specialmente considerato che ho comprato soltanto 3 tavole. La maggior parte dei rivenditori all'ingrosso avrebbero respinto la mia richiesta come troppo piccola per avviare le macchine, mentre loro sono stati estremamente gentili ed hanno cercato di fornirmi la soluzione più economica possibile. Mi hanno anche lasciato scegliere personalmente il legname, e questo mi ha permesso di ottenere tavole più dritte e con meno difetti.

• 2 planks 96 x 19 x 1360 mm
• 2 planks 96 x 19 x 2010 mm
• 4 legs 85 x 80 x 780 mm

Dimensioni del legno:

• 2 tavole 96 x 19 x 1360 mm
• 2 tavole 96 x 19 x 2010 mm
• 4 travetti 85 x 80 x 780 mm

The wood cost me 30 Euros (planing and sawing to dimension included), including VAT (21%). Considering that at the Brico superstore I would have spent between 80 and 90 Euros for the exact same material, I can conclude to be fully satisfied. Next post: assembly!

Il costo del materiale è stato di 30 euro (legno + piallatura), iva inclusa. Considerato che al Brico avrei speso tra gli 80 ed i 90 euro per lo stesso identico materiale, posso concludere di essere pienamente soddisfatto. Prossimo post: l'assemblaggio!
