Gentlemen with Gun (Lead Adventure 1881)

This mini has been sitting in a box awaiting painting for two years at least. Time for some steampunk goodness!

Questa miniatura è rimasta in una scatola per più di due anni, attendendo di essere dipinta. Ora è tempo di Steampunk!

This miniature is really excellent: no mould lines, no flash, animated and characterful sculpt. The last point is also a weak spot: I liked the mini so much I couldn't push myself painting it for fear of not doing justice to the sculpt.

Questa miniatura è davvero eccellente: nessuna linea di stampaggio, niente bave, scultura caratteristica e dinamica. Quest'ultimo punto è però anche un difetto: ci ho messo così tanto tempo prima di dipingerla per paura di non rendere giustizia alla scultura.

Zvezda Troll: Finished.

I've finished the Zvezda Troll. I'm quite pleased of the overall result. I'll use it as a Mordor Troll for my Mordor army in the Lord of the Rings - Strategy Battle Game (GW ruleset).

Ho finito il troll della Zvezda, e devo ammettere di essere abbastanza soddisfatto del risultato. Lo userò come Troll di Mordor nell'esercito di Mordor per "Il Signore degli Anelli - Gioco di Battaglie Strategiche" (Set di regole GW).

Wip: Skeleton Conversions (WF Saxon bodies)

I've recently bought a Wargames Factory Saxon Thegns. I was going to buy a Viking Huscarls box, but they didn't have any in stock.

Ho comperato di recente una scatola di sassoni con armatura della Wargames Factory. Avrei voluto prendere una scatola di vichinghi, ma non ne avevano in negozio.

I've loads of bits from previous kits, so I decided to make 6 skeletons out of this box. I wanted some archers, because I didn't own any for my undead army. I used bits from the Lord of the Rings Wargriders.

Dato che ho da parte molti accessori, ho deciso di convertire 6 sassoni in guerrieri scheletrici. Avevo voglia di un po' di arceri, così ho utilizzato spade, archi e faretre del kit dei wargrider del Signore degli anelli.

I choose to use bits from the High Elves and from the Vampire Counts to make the command group.

Per il Gruppo Comando ho sfruttato anche vari pezzi provenienti da kit degli Alti Elfi e degli Scheletri dei Conti Vampiro (warhammer).

It has been a lot of fun to put those baddies together. I can't wait to see 'em painted.

Devo ammettere che mi sono divertito un mondo a convertirli. Non vedo l'ora di dipingerli.

Skeletons (GW Vampire Counts)

I've completed the painting of a GW Vampire Counts Skeleton box. I'm very pleased with the results: even if I don't like GW prices and politics, this kit is a great addiction to every undead army. The details are gorgeous and there are plenty of options to outfit your warriors. Furthermore, the minis aren't so overwhelmingly full of skulls and decorations (so not too much GW-style).

All in all, a great kit, easy and fun to paint.

Ho terminato di dipingere una scatola di scheletri dei Conti Vampiro (GW). Sono molto soddisfatto dal risultato: anche se non mi piacciono i prezzi e le politiche economiche della GW, questo kit vale la pena  di comperarlo. E' un'aggiunta eccezionale per ogni armata di non-morti che si rispetti. I modelli di per sè sono ben dettagliati e privi di quell'orrendo tripudio di decorazioni e teschi che normalmente insozza le creazioni GW. Inoltre, la scatola straborda di opzioni per armare i guerrieri (e quindi sono possibili varie conversioni).
Insomma, un kit divertente e facile da dipingere.

Wip: Zvezda Troll - Sculpting (part 2)

I sculpted the aventail on the Troll head. Now it's time to paint the beast. 

Ho scolpito il camaglio attorno alla testa del troll. Tempo di dipingere la belva!

Skeleton (GW meshup): Painted

Ho dipinto lo scheletro convertito.

Non so se esserne soddisfatto o no. La posa mi piace, e credo di aver dipinto i metalli e la ruggine in modo eccezionale (molto sopra la mia media). D'altra parte le ombre tra le costole e sulla fascia sono troppo deboli, specie se comparate a quelle della tunica, che dovevo sfumare di più (nonostante i 6 layer).

I'm not sure if I have to be satisfied or not. I like the pose, and I believe I've done an excellent work on metal and rust (it's surely well above my standards). On the other hand I think the shades between the ribs and on the sash are too shallow. Furthermore I wasn't able to smooth enough the shadows on the dress (despite the 6 layers of white). 

Wip: Skeleton (GW meshup)

I'm rather proud of this skeleton. I made it with bits from the GW skeleton kit and a pair of legs from the GW High Elf Archers set. The sash is Green Stuff and a Space Marine seal.

Sono molto soddisfatto di questo scheletro. Le gambe provengono da un Alto Elfo arciere di Warhammer mentre tutto il resto è stato fatto utilizzando componenti del kit di scheletri dei Conti Vampiro. La fascia in vita è stata scolpita con Materia Verde ed un sigillo degli Space Marines.

Portable Painting Station

I've been left with no habitable home (and no fixed space to paint) since May, so in July I built a new portable painting station out of scrap wood (remains from the wood house we built).

It turned out to be very portable, durable and comfy. I'm very pleased.

Its design includes:

- hard, washable surface;

- wet palette;

- water reservoir;

- space for color storage;

- sturdy frame.

Come saprete la mia casa è inagibile da Maggio, e così ho dovuto arrangiarmi. Ho costruito una stazione di pittura trasportabile con gli avanzi della casa di legno.

Sono rimasto piacevolmente sorpreso dal risultato: è comodo, robusto e facilmente trasportabile.

Il design comprende:

- superficie dura, impermeabile e lavabile (ex pavimento);

- wet palette;

- portabicchiere;

- spazio per trasportare i colori;

- intelaiatura molto robusta.

Wargames Factory WWII Germans: Comparison Picture

Review: WWII German Infantry (Wargames Factory)

I've recently been at Lucca Comics and Games, a massive gaming expo in Lucca, near Firenze.

Here I bought a lot of miniatures, including a WWII German Infantry box from Wargames Factory.

The minis are well sculpted. Details are much sharper than the older Wargames Factory boxes, not to mention that there's almost no mold lines.

The bits go together rather well, even if sometimes it's difficult to picture what arms are intended to be coupled. There are loads of weapons, including Panzershrecks, granades, Kar98Ks with and without muzzle granades (it was the standard bolt-action rifle), Gewehr 98s (semi automatic rifles), MP40s, Lughers and MG34s, along with an hefty amount of ammo boxes. The only weapons that are missing are the mortair, MG43, flamer and STG44. These would be a nice bonus.

Those miniature are 1/56 scale, approximatively 28 mm tall. All weapons are tiny, but their size is exactly what the real thing would look at this scale.

I payed 18€ for 30 miniatures (1 box), even if it usually retails for 20€ (I got a 10% off RRP).

Let me point out this: they're good miniatures in their own right. For their price, they are simply awesome.

I'm gonna use them for Operation Squad and other random games. I've still 10 bodies left...

Recentemente sono stato a Lucca Comics and Games. Qui ho fatto scorta di miniature, e ho preso anche questa scatola di fanteria tedesca della II guerra mondiale prodotto dalla Wargames Factory.

Le miniature sono ben scolpite. I dettagli sono definiti molto meglio che nei vecchi kit della Wargames Factory, e le linee di fusione sono praticamente assenti.

I vari pezzi si uniscono abbastanza bene, anche se a volte è difficile intuire quali braccia debbano essere accoppiate. Ci sono moltissime armi incluse nel kit (Panzershreck, granate, Kar98K con e senza granate alla bocca, Gewehr 98, MP40, Lugher e MG34) insieme a svariate scatole portamunizioni. Mancano l'MG43, il lanciafiamme e l'STG44.

Queste miniature sono in scala 1/56 (28mm). Tutte le armi sono un po' fini, ma perfettamente in scala.

La scatola è costata 18 euro (prezzo base: 20 euro) e contiene 30 miniature.

Di per sè queste miniature sono veramente buone. Considerato il prezzo, non esito a definirle eccezionali.

Le userò per Operation Squad e altri giochi. Ho ancora da parte 10 corpi, chissà se mi conviene convertirli in zombie... Boh!

Space Marines Meshup (Wip)

This summer my friends gave me a GW Space Marines squad as a birthday present. To be totally honest I've never liked them too much for a couple of reasons. I prefer Starcraft Marines.

First it comes the head. The original ones are too big to fit into any of those helmets. I mean, look at it! There is no place for electronics at all!

Second things, I never liked Bolters. They're big and clumsy, not to mention that the barrel is too short to properly aim at something (and having a chance to actually hit).

In the bits box I had some leftovers from a Cadian IG Squad, together with a handful of spare heads from the Zombie pack from Wargames Factory. I put those together, using the body of  the Space Marines as a foundation for my minis. I've tried to achieve a more real-life look. 

Quest'estate i miei amici mi hanno regalato una squadra di Space Marines per il mio compleanno. Per essere onesti, non mi sono mai piaciuti più di tanto. Preferisco i Marines di Starcraft

Per prima cosa, le teste fornite nella scatola sono troppo grandi paragonate agli elmetti. Per questo sono state rimpiazzate da teste di Zombie Wargames Factory.

Secondariamente, non mi sono mai piaciuti i Bolters: troppo grandi e corti. La precisione è senz'altro limitata. Per questo sono stati sostituiti da Lasguns, che preferisco decisamente.

First, the medium infantry. Cadian arms, lasguns and no backpack. Heavy protection and enhanced performance on legs and torso, coupled with an helmet for hostile environment operations.

Per prima cosa, ecco la fanteria "leggera". Principalmente pezzi dallo sprue IG Cadiano.

Than it's time for the assault squad. Powered armour, CCWs and a backpack to power the whole thing. Made only with Space Marines bits (capitan head excluded).

La squadra d'assalto è stata assemblata quasi solo con pezzi di Space Marines.

Heavy infantry squad. All pieces come from the Space Marines, but Bolters were replaced with Lasguns.

Infine, ecco la squadra di supporto pesante. Anche qui l'unica modifica è stata l'eliminazione dei Bolters, rimpiazzati da Lasguns.

Wip: Zvezda Troll - Sculpting

I added some details to the Zvezda troll. I settled with a brigandine-like armour, covered with fur. The helm has been strongly inspired by a Gretchin (wh40k) I own. I'm rather sure that the original design is mongolic, maybe from the 1200 AC? Dunno.

Anyway, I sealed all the seams too. Next step is to add some chainmail to protect the neck and the cheeks.

Ho aggiunto un po' di dettagli al Troll Zvezda. Alla fine ho incollato dei tondi di plastica per simulare le piastre dell'armatura. Inoltre ho scolpito dell'altra pelliccia.

L'elmo è di tipo mongolo (credo... assomiglia a quello di una Kakkola di WH40k...).

Il prossimo passo è aggiungere un cappuccio di maglia a protezione delle guance e della nuca.
